Lung Cancer Facts

Lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer among both men and women in the US.

Every hour 20 people are diagnosed with lung cancer and 18 people will die from it.

In 2007, an estimated 213,380 people will be diagnosed with lung cancer and 160,390 will die from it.

More than 60% of people newly diagnosed with lung cancer each year have never smoked or have quit smoking.
Never smoked: 10-15% of new lung cancer cases
Quit smoking: 50% of new lung cancer cases

Over 50% of new lung cancer cases will be diagnosed at a very late stage—Stage IIIb or IV. Only 5% of them will live for 5 years! ... This could be prevented if an early detection tools were available.

Lung Cancer has the lowest survival rate of any other cancer but continues to receive the least amount of funding per death!

Lung cancer will kill more people this year than: breast cancer, prostate cancer, colorectal cancers and melanoma... combined!

Despite lung cancer being the #1 cancer killer, roughly $1,800 is spent per lung cancer death compared to around $23,000 per breast cancer death for research!

The 5-year survival rate for…
     Breast cancer has reached 88%
     Prostate cancer – 99%
     Colon cancer – 63%
     Lung Cancer – 15%!
